Applications are now open for the Santa Fe Institute UCR Program 2026. This fully funded 10 weeks residential research program allows selected participants to work on independent research projects under the guidance of SFI mentors. The Undergraduate Complexity Research program welcomes students from around the world. Students enrolled at U.S. institutions and international students enrolled outside the United States are eligible to apply. There are no citizenship restrictions.

Objectives of the UCR Program
The Santa Fe Institute UCR Program 2026 Undergraduate Complexity Research program offers a 10 week residential experience focused on complexity science.
• Students complete an independent research project under SFI mentorship
• Participants integrate theory, data and methods from natural, physical and social sciences
• The goal is to explore complex systems and address real world scientific questions
• Students develop interdisciplinary research skills through seminars, workshops and professional development training
Who Can Apply
Undergraduate students from all academic backgrounds in the physical sciences, natural sciences, social sciences and mathematics are encouraged to apply.

Eligibility Criteria
• International Applicants: Eligible from any country. Limited visa support is available.
• Undergraduate Status: Must be enrolled part time or full time in an Associate or Bachelor degree program.
• Return Requirement: Applicants must return to at least one more academic term after the program ends in August.
- Not eligible: Students who will complete their degree before the program ends.
• Eligible Students: Includes students from two year and four year institutions, as well as transfer students even during the summer transition.
• Dual Degree Students: Eligible if still in the undergraduate portion and returning for at least one more term.
