Work and Duties
- Production Planning: Work closely with the Farm Manager and Senior Agronomist to plan crop types, planting quantities, and production timelines based on market and weather conditions to achieve high yield results.
- Operations Management: Oversee the full crop cycle including soil preparation, planting, seed selection, weeding, thinning, pruning, and harvesting.
- Quality and Post-Harvest: Manage inspection, grading, storage, packaging, and dispatch of produce while identifying defective items and supervising post-harvest processes.
- Agronomy: Direct fertilising, weed and pest control, and identify crop diseases. Monitor field activities including water, chemical, and fertilizer usage.
- Logistics and Sales: Coordinate the sale and dispatch of produce, track market trends, and plan production to fulfil contract obligations.
- Maintenance: Conduct basic maintenance of equipment, machinery, farm buildings, fences, and water systems.
- Administration and Oversight: Maintain records of farming operations, supervise staff and contractors, manage rotations and schedules, and report issues regarding production, quality, or safety.
Requirements
- Certificate III or IV in agriculture or related field plus at least two years of experience, OR three to five years of relevant professional experience.
- Experience in horticultural operations or farm management.
- Experience handling potato, carrot, and onion crop production is desirable.
- Unrestricted Class C Driver’s Licence is essential.
- Chemical User Certificate Accreditation is essential.
- Forklift licence and HC licence are essential.
- Basic mechanical skills and experience operating large-scale agricultural machinery.
